The Stroke Center

Advances in stroke treatment are most effective when patients are seen as soon as possible within the first four hours symptoms develop. Stanly Regional’s proximity can—and does—save time and lives. That’s why we’re rated 5-Star in treatment of stroke by HealthGrades and one of only 18 primary stroke centers in North Carolina.

You may be at risk for a stroke if you have one or more of the following risk factors:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Smoking

An active Stroke Support Group is available to patients and caregivers.

Knowing what to look for could mean the difference between life or death when diagnosing a stroke. Following these critical guidelines could save you or a loved one from dying. Act FAST when it comes to stroke—because the faster you act, the more time you may have.

FACE—Does the face look uneven? Ask them to smile.
ARM—Does one arm drift down? Ask them to raise both arms.
SPEECH—Does their speech sound strange? Ask them to repeat a phrase.
TIME—Every second, brain cells die. Call 9-1-1 at any sign of stroke.

For more information about the Stroke Center, contact the Stroke Coordinator at 704-984-4586. For more information about the Stroke Support Group, contact 704-984-4536.
