Behavioral Health Services

Carolinas HealthCare System Stanly's Behavioral Health Services provides a safe and therapeutic environment for adults 18 and older in need of short-term, inpatient care.

Offering acute psychiatric services, the department provides patients quality mental healthcare close to their homes and support systems. The department features private rooms and counseling, recreation and visiting areas for the exclusive use of our patients.

Helping patients maintain their dignity while obtaining treatment is of the utmost importance. All services are confidential.

Individualized Care

Upon patient admission to the unit, our clinical team begins working with the patient to create an individualized care plan. The clinical team includes:

  • Psychiatrists
  • A clinical social worker
  • Licensed counselors
  • Registered nurses
  • Licensed therapist
  • Nursing assistants
  • Recreation therapist
  • Other allied professionals

Working with patients in both one-on-one and group settings, the team focuses on crisis resolution, self-esteem, communication, stress reduction and coping skills. Our primary goal is to help each patient achieve a higher level of functioning on a personal, occupational and social level.

Treatments of Behavioral Health Disorders

Some of the most frequently seen illnesses we treat include:

  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Schizophrenia
  • Personality disorders
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Dual diagnosis (mental health and substance abuse)

Transition and Treatment Continuation

Plans for continuing care beyond the inpatient setting begin early in the patient's treatment. All options are discussed with the patient or guardian to ensure that the appropriate aftercare plan is chosen. Family involvement, with patient consent, is strongly encouraged.

Our staff is sensitive to the importance of working with other professionals involved in a patient's care, including outpatient providers, the primary care physician, counselors and clergy both during treatment and after discharge. Involving other professionals helps enhance the team approach and promotes patient recovery and successful outcomes.
